Dr. Dr. Yildirim, MHBA – Implant Specialist
Interview with Dr. Dr. Yildirim, MHBA – Implant Specialist at the Head Center – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Munich
Interviewer: Good day, Dr. Dr. Yildirim, and thank you for taking the time for this conversation. You are a specialist in implants at the Head Center – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Munich. Could you start by telling us a bit about your career and your specialization?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: I’d be happy to! I studied medicine and dentistry at the universities of Rostock, Berlin, and Leipzig. After completing my dentistry studies, I focused intensively on oral and maxillofacial surgery and implantology. Additionally, I earned a Master of Health Business Administration (MHBA) to better understand medical practice from a business perspective. I was particularly fascinated by oral and maxillofacial surgery because it involves complex and precise work, often linked to restoring quality of life and aesthetics. I have been working at the Head Center – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Munich for several years, where we focus on advanced implantations and oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.
Interviewer: The Head Center is known for its high expertise in oral and maxillofacial surgery. What makes your facility stand out as an exceptional place for implant treatments?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: The Head Center – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Munich offers an excellent combination of state-of-the-art technology, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a very high standard of patient care. We have advanced digital infrastructure that allows us to plan and implement implants with the utmost precision. What stands out is the close collaboration between various specialties such as dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and radiology. This enables us to treat complex cases and find individually tailored solutions for our patients. Moreover, we place great emphasis on compassionate and holistic care to support patients not only medically but also emotionally.
Interviewer: You mentioned digitalization. What role does digital technology play in implant treatments, and how has it changed the approach in your practice?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: Digital technologies have revolutionized implantology. Through 3D X-rays and digital volume tomography (DVT), we can precisely visualize the jawbone in all dimensions. This enables accurate planning of the implant, allowing us to proceed precisely and minimize complications. The use of computer-aided design (CAD/CAM) to create dental restorations and the ability to virtually simulate implants have made the treatment methods safer and more efficient. Navigation technology is also increasingly used to position implants intraoperatively with great precision, which is particularly beneficial for difficult cases. These technologies not only make procedures more precise but also reduce operation times and improve healing processes.
Interviewer: Implants are a popular method for replacing lost teeth, but they are not always the only option. What criteria determine whether an implant is the best solution for a patient?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: The decision whether an implant is the best solution depends on several factors. First, the general health of the patient must be considered. Certain health risks, such as untreated diabetes or active cancer, can interfere with the healing process. The condition of the jawbone is also crucial. Sufficient bone volume is necessary to securely anchor the implant. If this is not the case, we can often prepare the bone through procedures like bone grafts or sinus lifts. Aesthetic considerations are also important, especially in the visible front tooth area. Ultimately, the goal is always to find the solution that best meets the patient’s individual needs to optimize both function and appearance.
Interviewer: A common topic in implantology is the fear that patients have about the procedure. What advice do you have for people who are worried or afraid of getting an implant?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: Fear of dental procedures is very common, and it’s completely understandable. Here at the Head Center, we place great importance on explaining the treatment in detail to our patients so that they feel secure and informed. In many cases, simply explaining the treatment process and the modern technology we use can ease their fears. We also offer various anesthesia options, from local anesthesia to twilight sedation, so the procedure can be performed almost pain-free. Many patients also report that the pain after the procedure was minimal and subsided quickly. Aftercare is also essential to promote healing and address any concerns after the procedure.
Interviewer: Implants are a long-term solution, but questions about durability often arise. How long do implants last on average, and what can patients do to maximize their lifespan?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: With proper care, implants can last 20 years or more. In fact, implants are among the most durable solutions in dentistry today. However, it’s important that patients attend regular check-ups and maintain excellent oral hygiene. This includes brushing their teeth daily, as well as using dental floss or interdental brushes to clean hard-to-reach areas. Risk factors such as smoking or an unhealthy lifestyle can affect durability, so we recommend avoiding these factors whenever possible. Another important point is regular professional teeth cleaning, as this helps prevent gum inflammation and issues around the implant.
Interviewer: What do you see for the future of implantology? Are there any developments that you find particularly exciting?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: The future of implantology will be shaped by even more innovative technologies in many areas. I believe the development of personalized medicine will play an increasingly significant role. It will become more and more possible to tailor implants to the individual needs of the patient, for example, through 3D printing technologies. The integration of biological materials that accelerate the healing process will also increase in the future. I see great potential in the use of „smart materials“ that adapt to the body’s conditions and could even contribute to regenerating bone tissue. Ultimately, there will be a growing focus on developing minimally invasive but highly precise procedures that not only offer the best functional solutions for patients but also optimize aesthetic results.
Interviewer: Finally, what would you advise patients who are considering dental implants?
Dr. Dr. Yildirim: My most important advice would be to inform yourself thoroughly and not rush into a decision. Implants are a long-term and generally very successful solution, but it’s crucial to make the right decision based on a thorough consultation and planning process. Trust your doctors and make sure you ask all the questions that are on your mind. If you decide on an implant, you can be confident that it is a very reliable and aesthetically pleasing option to improve your dental health in the long term.
Interviewer: Thank you, Dr. Yildirim, for the fascinating conversation and valuable insights into implantology.
